Wiring & Installation Guide Multi-Driver Impedance Solver

Series vs. Parallel Speaker Wiring

Calculate total load impedance seen by your amplifier when combining multiple single voice coil (SVC) and dual voice coil (DVC) loudspeakers.

Setup Preset:
Waveform: Decimals:

Mode 1: RMS Voltage + Impedance

P = V² / R

Calculate continuous electrical or speaker wattage using known RMS Voltage and load resistance/impedance.

e.g. 28.28 V
e.g. 8 Ω
Interactive Waveform Geometry Crest Factor: 1.414
RMS Level (Effective Heat)
Peak Amplitude (1.414×)
Vp-p (2.828× RMS)
Calculated Real Power Valid Calculation
99.97 Watts (W RMS)
FORMULA & SUBSTITUTION
P = (V_RMS)² / R
P = (28.28 V)² / 8.00 Ω = 99.97 W
Audio Context: 99.97W RMS into 8Ω generates clean acoustic headroom.
Peak Power 199.94 W
Peak Voltage 39.99 V
Peak-to-Peak 79.98 V
RMS Current 3.535 A
Power in dBm 49.99 dBm
Estimated PMPO 1,499.5 W

4Ω Load (Car / PA) 200.0 W 7.07 A RMS current
8Ω Load (Home Hi-Fi) 100.0 W 3.54 A RMS current
16Ω Load (Pro Horn) 50.0 W 1.77 A RMS current

Series vs. Parallel Electrical Characteristics

Series Wiring (Impedance Adds)

Connect positive terminal of Amp → Positive of Speaker 1 → Negative of Speaker 1 to Positive of Speaker 2 → Negative of Speaker 2 to Amp Negative.

Z_Total = Z1 + Z2 + ... + Zn

Example: Two 4 Ω speakers in series = 8.0 Ω total.

Parallel Wiring (Impedance Divides)

Connect all speaker positive terminals together to Amp Positive, and all negative terminals together to Amp Negative.

1 / Z_Total = 1/Z1 + 1/Z2 + ... + 1/Zn

Example: Two 4 Ω speakers in parallel = 2.0 Ω total.

Frequently Asked Questions

For two identical speakers in parallel: Z_Total = Z / 2. For different impedances: 1/Z_Total = 1/Z1 + 1/Z2 + ... + 1/Zn. Two 4-Ohm speakers in parallel equal 2 Ohms total load.
In series wiring, impedances add directly: Z_Total = Z1 + Z2 + ... + Zn. Two 4-Ohm speakers in series equal 8 Ohms total load.
Wire the two voice coils of each subwoofer in parallel (creating two 2-Ohm loads), then wire the two subwoofers in parallel with each other. This results in a final 1-Ohm load (2Ω / 2 = 1Ω).
You can calculate the total impedance using (4 × 8) / (4 + 8) = 32 / 12 = 2.67 Ohms. However, the 4-Ohm speaker will draw 67% of the total amplifier power while the 8-Ohm speaker receives only 33%, causing an acoustic volume mismatch.
